A resolution is a conversation the AI agent answers on its own. Follow-ups within that same conversation count once, and a conversation handed off to your team counts as zero.
The most common cause is the workspace running through its included monthly resolutions. Once that happens:
With pay-per-use off, the agent stops resolving new conversations and hands them to your team instead, until the plan resets next month. A visitor who opens the widget in the meantime sees "Our AI assistant is paused right now. Talk with a human and we'll pick this up from here."
With pay-per-use on, the agent keeps resolving conversations, billing $0.79 for each resolution beyond the included allowance (or until it hits a monthly resolution cap you set, see below).
To check whether this is what happened and fix it:
Go to Settings > AI > Usage and credits.
Compare your usage against the included allowance for your plan.
If usage has hit the limit, turn on pay-per-use so the agent keeps resolving conversations past it.
A visitor in the widget never sees any of this. When the agent is paused, the chat tells them the assistant is unavailable, in their own language, and offers to talk with a person. Your resolution count and billing state stay on your side.
With pay-per-use enabled, resolutions beyond the ones included in your plan bill at $0.79 each. Turning pay-per-use on sets a starting monthly cap automatically.
Click Adjust cap on the usage page to change that cap, or Remove cap inside the editor to make usage unlimited. While pay-per-use is off, the agent pauses at the included limit until the next reset.
Your current usage and the cap you set show together in your AI settings, so it stays visible instead of hiding behind a separate page.
The monthly AI budget is shared across every paid AI feature, not just resolutions: docs generation, translation, changelog drafts, and more. Automatic changelog generation (Release Intelligence) draws from the same budget.
The Monthly overage limit on the usage page caps that budget in dollars. Click Set a limit to turn it on, which starts it at $50, or Adjust limit to change one you already set. Remove limit inside the editor turns it back off, so overage runs without a cap.
Once AI pauses for the month, a banner on the usage page names why:
During a trial, AI is paused for this month asks for a payment method to lift the limit right away.
Past a set overage limit, AI is paused at your overage limit names the amount spent and the day credits refresh, with Adjust limit to raise it.
Clicking Generate Changelog while paused shows the same message, with a link straight to this usage page. A changelog that was already generating in the background stops, leaves the entry unchanged, and shows a "Changelog generation failed" notice with a Try again action.
