Productlane meters AI in two separate ways: resolutions for the AI Agent (your customer-facing support bot) and credits for every other AI feature that runs on tokens, like Copilot, docs generation, changelog generation, and translation.
Settings > Features > AI > Usage (route /settings/ai/usage).
Each conversation the AI Agent resolves without escalating to a human counts as one resolution. This section shows:
Resolutions used this month against your plan's free monthly allowance.
Whether pay-per-use is enabled, and your monthly resolution limit if it is.
Once you use up your free resolutions and have no pay-per-use limit (or hit the limit you set), the AI Agent stops resolving new conversations until the counter resets on the 1st of the next month.
This section tracks token-based AI spend, broken down by feature: Copilot drafts, Copilot chat, Docs generation, Docs suggestions, Changelog, Translation, and Auto-reply.
Spend this month: total credits used, shown against the credits included in your plan.
Time range tabs: This month, 3 months, or 12 months. The chart buckets by day, week, or month depending on the range.
Chart and feature breakdown: a stacked bar chart plus a list of each feature with its dollar spend for the selected range. Features with no spend in the range are hidden.
Monthly overage limit: a dollar field for how much you allow AI to spend past your included credits before it pauses. Leave it empty for no limit. The default is 0, meaning AI pauses as soon as the included credits are used up.
During a trial, this field is disabled ("Not available") because there is no payment method yet to bill overage against.
Free (and any trialing workspace, regardless of the plan being trialed): $2/month, a one-time allowance that does not refresh.
Starter: $5/month.
Pro: $10/month.
Scale, Business, Enterprise: $20/month.
Workspaces on the Startup program get Starter-level credits ($5/month) even though their other entitlements match Scale.
Included credits refresh monthly for paying workspaces. The free-tier allowance is a one-time amount and does not refresh.
When spend passes your included credits plus your overage limit, token-billed AI features pause for the rest of the month:
Copilot chat in the thread sidebar shows an error with a "Raise AI spend limit" button that links back to this page.
Translating a help center article or changelog entry fails with a message telling you to raise the limit.
Background features (docs gap analysis, docs proposal generation, thread draft suggestions) skip silently rather than erroring.
The AI Agent's resolution allowance is separate and unaffected: it keeps working off the resolution counter above until that counter's own limit is reached.
Raise or remove the overage limit on this page, or wait for the counter to reset on the 1st of the month, to resume.
Workspace admins get an email (and an in-app notification) at 80% and again at 100% of the resolution allowance, and separately at 80% and 100% of the credit spend limit.
On the 1st of every month, admins get a summary email of the prior month's AI credit spend, broken down by feature, if the workspace had any spend.
Overage on credits is billed through Stripe at your actual token cost plus a margin; overage on resolutions is billed at a flat rate per resolution when pay-per-use is enabled. See the AI Agent article for resolution pay-per-use, and the Billing article for how these charges appear on your invoice.
The credit chart and totals are visible to anyone who can open Settings, but the overage limit field only saves for users with permission to manage AI settings.
